The village is located in the eastern Montefienali of the municipality of Gaiole in Bend on a hilly promontory, formed by the mountain of Velden (693 meters above sea level), slopes towards the southeast between the valleys crossed by the river and the river Amber Ambrell. The area is located along the southern reaches of the chain of mountains of Chianti and is characterized by extensive forests, concentrated mostly in the area surrounding Mount Luco, land used for agriculture and pastoralism to lla, which are located in the range that gently slopes down to Siena.
The particular configuration of the territory geomorphology, natural line of demarcation between Chianti and the Valdarno, explains the important strategic role assumed since time immemorial.
